The School Day

The School Day

Classes commence at 7:25am from Monday to Friday. Girls are expected to be at school no later than 7:10am for registration every day.

Girls who arrive late must report to the Front Office before proceeding to lessons.

Assemblies are held at 7:15am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, during which administrative issues are discussed with the girls, as well as general results from academic, cultural and sporting events. Assemblies all have an inter-denominational Christian basis. There is a Christian Service alternating with Prefects Assembly every Wednesday.

There are 45 periods during the week and period times vary between 35 minutes and 70 minutes each. Each morning’s timetable is slightly different, in order to cater for specific requirements such as Assemblies.

Academic School ends at 1:10pm each day. There is a comprehensive Departmental extra lesson programme between 2.00pm and 3.00pm every afternoon. Pupils can make arrangements to see their teachers for extra tuition, in any sections with which they are having problems. Girls are strongly advised to take full advantage of this academic period. Form Ones and Twos attend compulsory prep periods which are supervised, unless they are attending extra lessons. All other forms have places allocated to do their prep but the prep period for them is optional.

Those who are absent must hand in a written excuse note, signed by the parents, the teacher taking an extra lesson or by the San Sister in the case of boarders. (Special forms are available from the Front Office). These excuse notes must be handed in to the Front Office. Failure to submit these forms in a timely manner will result in Restorative Afternoon Practice (RAP). Senior classes often have time-tabled lessons and ‘practicals’ between 2:00pm and 4:00pm. Most girls complete their activities at 4:00pm or 5:00pm depending on their individual programmes.

Day scholar girls who remain for afternoon activities are expected to bring their own lunches which can be eaten within the College grounds. The tuck shop is open during break time and lunch hour for cool drinks and food. A healthy selection is on offer. Boarders are catered to in the school dining room for all meals.
